Antenatal and Postnatal WOF

Each woman’s experience of pregnancy, birth and recovery will be different. The best exercises for your body during these periods is also a very individual thing, depending on how your body is managing and what your needs and goals are.

We encourage all pregnant women and new mums to be checked by a Women's Health Physiotherapist for advice on the best care of yourself and your body so you can feel empowered and confident on your journey into motherhood.

Please note: If you have ANY pelvic floor symptoms (e.g. leaking, prolapse symptoms, painful sex) please book in for an Initial Private Pelvic Floor Appointment instead of a WOF.

Our postnatal WOFs include an ultrasound of your pelvic floor so please try to attend with a moderately full bladder.

Exercise Programming

& Rehabilitation

We cater for women at any level of fitness- from total beginner to elite athlete - designing and/or modifying exercise and rehabilitation programmes to be suitable for pregnant and postnatal women or those with pelvic health issues.

Real Time Ultrasound Scan

RTUS allows us to see how your muscles working in real time. This enables your physiotherapist to show you how to activate and control the muscle more effectively. Similar to an obstetric ultrasound it is a comfortable and non-invasive scan.

Many women feel concern over whether or not they are activating their ‘core’ and ‘pelvic floor muscles’ correctly during their gym workouts or pilates classes. RTUS is great visual feedback tool for you to see how to engage these muscles correctly.

Please note imaging is usually best when the client has a moderately full bladder.

* For women with pelvic floor concerns, a follow up appointment may be suggested for a physical examination and internal assessment. A full explanation about this assessment is always given and your consent will be established prior to any assessment taking place.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • No, you do not need a referral.  However, if you do have a referral or any xrays, scans or information regarding your condition please bring this with you to your first appointment. If you require time off work due to your injury you may need to contact your GP or LMC.

  • Treatments related to specific accidents/ incidents may be covered. Please discuss with your Physiotherapist at your appointment.

  • We recommend that you come in for your postnatal WOF 4-5 weeks after birth so we can give you early advice and set you on the right track for your recovery. If you feel you are ready to come in sooner that is also appropriate, and if you can’t get in to see us until further down the track then don’t panic, it is never too late!

  • Yes, you are more than welcome to bring you baby with you. Some women do prefer to arrange for someone to look after their baby while they come so they can have an uninterrupted session however this is often not always possible and we are more than happy to accomodate you and your baby’s needs throughout the appointment.

  • These are half hour appointments to assess and check you before starting in any of the pre or post- natal pilates classes at the onsite Reab Pilates Studio. This is to both check that the classes are safe suitable for you and to identify any individual needs you may have, ensuring that you get the full benefit out of coming the classes.

  • You can return any purchased Leto Belt, that is unused and still in its original packaging, within the 14 day return period by sending us an email at shop@leto.co.nz stating your reason for return. Once the returned product is received your will be given a full refund.
